Traditionally, Crab Smasher have been at their best attempting layers of spontaneous scrawl rather than chasing celebrity, but Impossible Monsters - their tenth release and the first since 2007's Doom+Doom=OMG!!! - somehow pulls off the trick of doing both, matching big hooks with forward-thinking production tricks.

DVDR + CDR from Half/theory (HALF05)
A psychedelic tour de force by Lloyd Barrett & Joe Musgrove, "Let's Hear It For The Vague Blur" is a 40 minute slow motion freefall down a kaleidoscopic rabbit's hole of almost graspable abstraction. Conceived and composed in multi-channel surround sound, the audio is the air upon which the video floats. This film is an exercise in gleeful, contemplative confusion. All 'identifiable' images in this film exist only in the minds of the viewers - in this case the mind plays tricks on itself because it has no choice.

CDR from Half/theory (HALF06)
Landing mines a deep vein of music from the fields of 'ambient', but with a definite nod towards the field-recording school. Sourced from a refined blend of field recordings, processed instruments and electronics, these pieces are at first deceptively simple, but closer listening reveals layers of complexity lurking beneath apparently static surfaces. Tim Coster's compositions maintain distinct hints of identifiable sounds which create a genuine sense of space and place.

This album collects a series of tracks as snippets from the year following Ryan Cockburn's relocation from Dunedin, NZ, to Melbourne, Australia. After a couple of releases of mysterious turntable strategies on Dunedin's United Fairy Moons label (one side of a split lathe, and a cdr), and endless praiseworthy activities with the band EYE, "Little King Annual" has been realised through a series of process experiments with dilapidated equipment.

CDR 3" from CLaudia (CLaudi_020)
This is a short compilation of four 5 minute long guitar tracks. Ranging from the deep glacial drift of Un Ciego, through the scratchy feedback broadcasts of Ben Spiers, and the cosmic processed fizz of CJA & Jani Hellen, to the binary "noise versus silence" melodies of Pumice.

This is a short compilation of four 5 minute long tracks of processed field-recordings (each with a hint of musicality). These were originally released as a series of business-card size cdr's over 2006 & 2007, featuring pieces by Jane Austen, C.Cottrell, Yek-Koo, & Mark Sadgrove.

Cassette from Trapdoor Tapes (TT022)
Crab Smasher's very first cassette release on Brisbane label Trapdoor Tapes. Five recordings from 2006/2007.It drifts along, with inevitable cassette hiss for accompaniment, like Black Dice on a lazy Sunday. With scant regard for typical song structures, the five tracks could at times pass for background noise or random field recordings.
