Based around the idea of (wait for it......) incedental, overlooked, ephemeral & 'backgrounded' sounds, The pieces on this compilation were (intended for) broadcast in place of the usual muzak in two of Brisbane's most populous shopping malls.  It seems, however, that the ears of Mr & Mrs G. Public are a far more integral part of the shopping experience that was previously believed, and complaints from the aforementioned 'great washed' prompted Brisbane Marketing to run the installation late at night, or not at all.  Far from disheartened, the curators of this exhibition took their newfound knowledge, and refined their findings for presentation to those who have ears to listen.....

That's you, people.  In keeping with the spirit of the installation, the pieces here focus mainly on treatments of field recordings, subtle electronic & instrumental approaches, and conceptual approaches to the idea of 'muzak', and the results are far from uniform.

Featuring half/theory artists Dzo (Andrew Thomson of Biffplex, Narghile, etc), Joe Musgrove & a contribution from tri-continental quartet Le Grand Jeu (inc. Lloyd Barrett), as well as good friens of half/theory Camilla Hannan, Thembi Soddell & Mathieu Ruhlmann alongside world class pointers of microphones at things such as Chris Watson, Aaron Ximm & Brandon Labelle & more...

For those who don't know, Chris Watson was a founding member of UK electronic act Cabaret Voltaire. He left around 1976 and they got instantly crap.  He was also a member of The Hafler Trio during their early years, and recently served as the sound recordist on the BBC's nature pervert series "Big Cat Diary".  His collections of field recordings for the Touch label are utterly essential listening - "Outside The Circle Of Fire" in particular.
