Studies In Particle Motion

Quantum physics is contradiction. A photon can be described accurately as both a particle and a wave. If you know a particle's mass you cannot know its position and vice versa. And by measuring the properties of a particle you change them. Quantum physics defies daily reality, yet is the basis of it.

"Studies In Particle Motion" is the latest field of research for David Loose.  It draws its inspiration from the quantum realm, where matter is defined not by absolutes but by probabilities.  Sounds vibrate randomly, but with-in carefully predefined parameters.  It is a sonic representation of the change in mechanical energy caused by particles colliding, matter passing through phase transitions, and of energy becoming matter.

"Studies In Particle Motion" focuses on the idea that everything is formed by oscillations.

The main research tool used for this exploration has been max/msp.  Through careful crafting, Hydatid has produced a set of unique patches solely designed for the reduction of audio.  The audio streams are pulled apart and randomly recombined to discover their elemental components.  The exact results of which are never fully understood, but the overall effect is always the same.

The compositional products of these experiments are soothing and meditative.  The ambient, though chaotic mood of "Studies In Particle Motion" allows the listener to relax, while contemplating the true nature of the universe we live in.  It is electronic composition that rewards deeper listening and is always new when heard live.  Every performance is a unique study in time and motion.
