Calendar : Toowoomba Noise

16 February 2006 8:00pm

Performance in Toowoomba with Brothers Of The Occult Sisterhood, The Impromptulons and Mos Eissley.

This Thursday night the Icon Cinema, in the Ruthven St RSL Hall, Toowoomba
will  be the venue for a collection of premier Australian
'art-noise-experimental' acts. Patrons will be able to sit back and relax on
Icon's delectable couches between the sets of Brothers Of The Occult
Sisterhood, The Impromptulons and Mos Eissley. The sets will be accompanied
by a special selection of historical experimental films drawn from the
www.otherfilm.org archive.

Part of the MusicYourMindWillLoveYou Collective; Brothers Of The Occult
Sisterhood  seek the point of counter balance to all other musics,  all
other thoughts.

The Impromptulons are an elusive collective of Brisbane noisemakers and
sound artists who perform a highly rhythmic but totally free
form of improvisation based on the 'everybody solos, nobody solos'
principle. Instruments include pecussion objects, strings, electricity,
panda box, trumpet and feedback. Two impromptulons have played music
throughout the world in major experimental sound happenings and all have
been active in the fertile australian noise underground in bands and
'events' including Volvox, No Guru, Baconfat Synaptic Uprock, Faber Castell,
Perfect Lovers, Resi-quat, Gyanism, Vangelis and The White Petunias. They
have been described as sounding like a lovely ambulance ride, followed by a
serious car accident, followed by another lovely ambulance ride with more
accidents along the way all on medication mixed with acid

Mos Eissley are Adam Sussman, Matt Earle and Inge Olheilm from sydney and
norway. Matt and Adam have played together for years as Stasis Duo,
releasing countless tapes, cds and cdrs on labels all over the world and on
their own labels Document and Breakdance The Dawn. Their music veers between
full spectrum minimalist barrage, rhythmic clattering, and free punk noise
and is performed on an array of homemade and modified instruments. Last
month Matt and Adam were featured in uk magazine 'the wire' and later in the
year they will perform on ABC tv program 'set'. Check out the Breakdance The
Dawn website at www.halftheory.com/bdtd. Inge Olheilm has stunned Sydney
audiences over the
last year with his uncompromising sonic art performed at festivals like
Liquid Architecture and The Nownow. This is his first and last trip to
Queensland before returning to Norway.

The night is all-ages and the cover charge is $5, a pittance for the quality
and standing of these original and questing artists. Doors will be
opening at 8pm.
