Keith Humble – The Mentor
Keith Humble had a major influence on the fledgling Australian experimental music scene from the late 1960s onward. Humble established himself early in life as a child prodigy on the piano and later as a composer, before leaving Australia for Paris in the 1950s. There he ran the alternative performance space Centre de Musique.
He returned to Melbourne in 1966 and set about inspiring a new generation of composers and musicians to explore new musical ideas. ... Read more

Percy Grainger – The Quest for a Free Music
In the early 20th century, Percy Grainger was the equivalent of an international pop star. Famed as a composer and pianist, Grainger was also a collector of folk music, as well as an eccentric interested in sado-masochism. He was also the first Australian to record a significant body of experimental music.
In the early 1920s he worked with cutting player piano rolls by hand to enable his complex compositions to be played. His work with Free Music took place in the late 1940s and 1950s, but the idea had been developing throughout his life. A young Grainger, boating on... Read more

Brisbane space-time interlopers BLOON reconvene for a rare-as-hell performance as part of the 'songs are forever' launch series. They have even attempted to tune the forest piano for this one! Amazing.
LLOYD BARRETT and JOE MUSGROVE kick out some quadraphonic electroacoustic jams possibly using contact mics, tapes, granulation, an ebow, guitar and more. But who really knows?
