Another Shameless Diaspora Collector Scum Alert

Synaesthesia have the original, limited to fuck-all, hand-painted version of the Vague Blur DVD for $15!  It's not listed on their website (seems a common thing for Melbourne shops to withold their true inventories - bastards!) but they had a copy on the DVD shelf last Saturday.

we love you (even though you're cheap...)

In other Diaspora related 'news', it's worth mentioning at this point that Diaspora's 2003 album "Ohmwyrld" is available for free download from archive.org here:
http://www.archive.org/details/SHAM024

Please disregard the one star review it has recieved, the person who wrote that is a house dj, so if we gave them nightmares, that counts as 5 stars - understand?  Plus, neither of us is tragic enough to write a review of our own album....  Unless Shame File is sitting on copies, the cdr version of this album is long gone.  Collector scum could try hassling them to see if they still have any here:   http://shamefile.tripod.com/

Half/theory artists Diaspora, Scott Sinclair & Kettle are also featured on the fine Austrailan compilation "The Undertow"... Read more

digitalis thinks we're foxy (& a competition! woo!)

Following from featuring half/theory in their monthly label spotlight, http://www.foxydigitalis.com/foxyd/label_spotlight.php?id=33 , the following review of diaspora's "let's hear it for the vague blur" has been posted at the foxy digitalis website:

"Brisbane-based label half/theory specialise in material by local artists with intriguing approaches to DVD technology as a medium for avant garde multimedia.  Diaspora consist of Lloyd Barrett and Joe Musgrove. The title of this disc is a rather offhand yet appropriate description of the visuals, which consist of fields of random, diaphanous colour patterns drifting over one another. It's very suggestive, and the viewer is likely to perceive faces, human figures, landscapes and so on, swimming into view, only to dissolve back into randomness. It's carefully... Read more

foxy digitalis label spotlight

Half/theory features in foxy digitalis' label spotlight column for April. The following transcript is from
http://www.foxydigitalis.com/foxyd/label_spotlight.php?id=33

Who started the label and why?
Scott Sinclair (moi) initially started halftheory.com as a collective webspace for noise artists in Brisbane (Australia's poor cousin of Sydney/Melbourne). A lot of my friends had websites documenting some great DIY projects hosted on commercial free webhosts, which as a web developer I have a kind of irrational religious contempt for, so I brought these websites together under one roof as a first step towards representing Brisbane noise. Previously Andrew Kettle had a great label with lots of Bris-noise (http://listen.to/kettle) but he stopped and there is too much... Read more

Incidental Misspelling and Career Advancement

The Incidental Amplifications cd compilation receives a review from Vital Weekly(below)

Worth pointing out that Joe's surname is Musgrove not Mushgrove (Mushroom Grove...mmmm tasty!) and that I have not risen in the ranks of Room40 to become a co-owner with Lawrence - merely a co-curator of the CD and Installation.

INCIDENTAL AMPLIFICATIONS (CD compilation by Room40)
Day and night we are surrounded by sound, and most of the time we don't
want, or at least: we wouldn't choose this to be. Worst of all sounds
is music that we hear in the supermarket: muzak. Muzak tries to hide the
unwanted sounds, or what the owner of the supermarket thinks to be
unwanted sounds. Room40 owners Lawrence English and Lloyd Barrett invited a
whole bunch of sound artists to provide them with a piece of music that
was used in a spatial sound... Read more
