Audiopollen 05/07/06
Slowly catching up on the playlists.
Audiopollen on this night featured Lloyd soloing while Joel was in Melbourne. This night I played my entire "Mise En Scene" (room40) album just prior to the launch at the Judith Wright Centre.
Also played a track entitled "non-reflective orange hens" from the beautifully difficult Joel Stern/Jim Denley "tape and paint game"(splitcdr9).
Finally I worked the interzone between AP and Morphine and Ice Cream with Baka Tatakau "1st", an intriguing new proposition from Joe Musgrove and Daiji Igarashi. It is completely their own thing but reference points might include Dean Roberts, Boredoms and some of the less anguished Keiji Haino material.

company fuck & the sounds of mu
those of you out there who are curious to see just how the (possibly higher) intellectual standards of european audiences have impacted on company fuck's "one man speedcore karaoke metal" live show, may find this following mp3 of interest : http://www.companyfuck.com/files/Company_Fuck_2006_Oslo_Sound_Of_Mu.mp3
it's scotty's solo set from oslo, recorded there on the 11th of july (or last tuesday, for the date challenged) at some place called sound of mu - an awesomely illuminated name for a place to have. scotty was last heard from in black metal ground zero, bergen (home of both burzum & darkthrone, if that claim needed any backing up, and (!) the size of frigging toowoomba, according to my norweigan workmate) and is doing well. and has his music changed? i think it has a little, it's a little more 'arty' & less 'bogan' than when last i heard it, but not in a bad... Audiopollen June 28th 2006 - Liquid Architecture and Wolf Eyes
hello friends and acquaintances,
audiopollen is a weekly radio program exploring experimental, avant-garde, outsider, noise and other forms of music. it broadcasts in brisbane on 4ZZZ 102.1fm and will eventually stream to the world in one way or another...
tonights edition of audiopollen is hosted as per usual by joel stern and lloyd barrett.
A huge program this week covering the Brisbane visit of both detriot-noise-punk wierdos wolf eyes and the national sound art festival liquid architecture 7
we started with a couple of classic wolf eyes tracks:
1. Half Animal, Half Insane from the album Dread...
2. Black Vomit from the album Burned Mind (subpop)...
We moved on to LA7 stuff with our special in studio guests Dean Roberts (NZ), Greg Davis (USA) and Jeff Jerman (USA). All three were very insightful and poetic when discussing their music, and Jeff revealed his love of... Read more

punter's choice: rod cooper vs ernie althoff
2nd round match in the inaugural 2006 abc set cup, this match promises to be a heavyweight contest between two of australia's most prominent & highly regarded instrument makers. the match airs live on abc tv thursday 13th july, 11 pm, or thereabouts.
probably too close to call this one. it's possible cooper might have the edge when it comes to the collaborative process, but althoff's music is far from hermetically self-enclosed, and he has a track record of strong community involvment stretching back to his early days with clifton hill. like we said, too close to call. let's hope for a good game, and that music is the winner on the night.

oh, syd barrett died, and italy won the world cup, etc.

WAKE IN FRIGHT!!!
hi everyone, i will be a guest on the TripleR program 'wake in fright', hosted by synrecords honcho Mark Harwood, airing at midnight tonight until 2am. Yes, the perfect warm-up to your pre-worldcup-final-whatever-antics. For those who don't know, TripleR is a Melbourne independent radio station with a great variety of programming, decent studios with gear that works (ahem, ZZZ), and is run by volunteers from Melbourne's music, arts, film, activist, culture scenes...I will be chatting with Mark about the Brisbane experimental music and art culture, playing a bunch of related cd's, and performing a short live set.....
TripleR can be streamed direct from the website....

Mise En Scene launch
I'm launching my Mise En Scene album tonight at the Judith Wright Centre.
I will be playing a Quad remix of tracks off the album while manipulating the movements in an abstract theatrical production that I hand-coded in Java. It only just works so if you feel like lush surround sound composition or extreme crashes to desktop - please do turn up!
Also performing will be stunt-coders Andrews Brown and Sorenson and Klipp AV from grim and frostbitten Scandinavia.
It all starts at 8pm and costs $10 via the web and $12 at the door.

p.s. I will be uploading the last couple of Audiopollen playlists as soon as I have time to recognise that real life actually exists (i.e. tomorrow!)

Shame File on Half/Theory
The wheel has turned and I've finally got myself a web domain and said good bye to the ads and pop-ads. With many thanks to Scott Sinclair and Half/Theory, you can now browse the Shame File catalogue ad-free at http://ShameFileMusic.com
To spread the good will around, there's a special for the month of July where if you order 2 items you'll receive a 3rd item of equal or less value for free.
Of course, there's also lots of free stuff every day of the year on Shame File, including the reissues of seminal compilations NMATAPES, available for free downloading (or on double CDR for trade).
This month we go back to 1985 for the fourth edition of the series. NMATAPE 4 concentrated on female Australian composers of the time. Highlights include Sarah Hopkins' Interweave, performed with 6 of her "whirlies" (a... Read more
