other things which discerning citizens of interweb might find of interest:

we're sure many of you have come across him already, as the gentleman is in danger of becoming an internet meme, but if you've not yet seen mazen kejbag's blog, then you really must. http://mazenkerblog.blogspot.com/  he's an improvising musician & artist who's living in beirut at the moment, and he's recorded a piece for trumpet, accompanied by falling missiles entitled 'starry night' which is all over the net.  to say it is evocative is to undersell it. chilling doesn't quite sum it up either.  this piece speaks volumes about life under the cloud of war in a way that no amount of embedded journalism ever could, an unspeakably moving piece which is all about PEOPLE, not politics.  this is a piece of music that needs to be heard as widely as possible and it can be downloaded from any of the following sites

on his blog marzen talks about his frustration with the current attention being paid him, and his reasons for this are sound, and eloquently expressed, without resorting to 'tourtured artist' stereotypes, but his simple, direct, and crushingly human art is vital at this point in time.  we send mazen (and all people on all sides in the conflict who just wish to live in peace - fuck all extremists who seek the conflict out) our best wishes, and we hope that he can go back to making self indulgent, unimportant art like the rest of us sooner rather than later.

in less vital, but more entertaining news, the new religious freedoms proffered afghanistan have been gleefullly taken up by at least one of it's residents, who's decided to start the 1st trve kvlt afghani black metal band!!!! http://taarmablackemperorjogezai.metalhordes.com/ or maybe it's someone just pretending, but why they wouldn't pretend to be from norway is beyond me.

in completely non entertaining, grim, inverted & frostbitten news, the utterly essential 7" by the grimmest & most frostbitten of all bands, impaled northern moonforest is available for download from the norweigously inverted & grim http://inm.necrobation.org/ with original copies of this grimmest of items fetching over $100(us), it is grim indeed that you may now obtain it without having to pay such lukewarm sums of cash to one whose grimness is not equal to the task of owning such a norweigous object. hail the necrowizard for his inverted bounty!!!!!!!

don't forget the last installment of the new series of set is on tomorrow night, abc 11pm, featuring the splinter orchestra. it'll be interesting to see how that works on tv, as in my experience it's probably better to play in than watch... and god, bless 'em, auntie's finally gotten around to posting the audio for the oren ambarchi & rod cooper/ ernie althof shows. go here http://www.abc.net.au/tv/set/future.htm and scroll down. you pay your taxes for that bandwidth, so go go go.

see you all saturday, at 55 fairley st, indooroopilly, corner of campus street, next to brigidine college.
