my life's been nothing like this recently, so i haven't been posting as much as i would normally.

(no longer) all quiet on the western (suburbs) front

(lots of news & links here, please bear with me....)
sorry for prolonged silence from this department,  we have been busy celebrating the return of justice to the eurovision song contest, following finland's magnificent besuited victory.  hopefully the rest of the world will take note & follow (in) suit(s) before too long.  so, my prediction is that while next year's eurovision will be awesome to watch, some really bland piece of crap will win.  you heard it here first.  big ups to company fuck for being in europe and actually voting this time round.
but you're probably in brisbane, right?
so.  just a quick note to let y'all know about a few forthcoming events in the bris reigon over the next wee while.
tommorrow (wednesdsy 31st of may) you could go and see catatonic mormon popsters low at the zoo.  I/O3 support.  or you could stay home and listen to jamie's yearly airing of the full "pink  lady lemonade (you're so sweet)" (by acid mother's temple) in it's hour long form from midnight on 4zzz.  or you could go to the zoo, marvel that the show's ended early enough that you could still make it home for a sensible bedtime, give a quick prayer iof thanks to the mormons for this, then go to 4zzz and do your best impersonation of early 70's exploitation movie hippy dances in the car park while jamie plays aforementioned track. i'm sure he'd get a kick out of that.  either way, chances are you're going to end up asleep at some point of wednesday night.  did you know that "acid mother's temple is the people's acid mothers temple" according to head honcho thereof makoto kawabata? this evidenced by the 10+ acid mother's temple concerts available on archive.org's live music archive.  they usually play pink lady lemonade, it seems. here's one version of it: http://www.archive.org/download/amt2005-10-16.flac16/amt2005-10-16t03_vbr.mp3
friday 2nd june sees marissa nadler at the troubador with support from I/O expanded (to more than 3 ppl), ambitious lovers (no, not that ambitious lovers.  If you like these guys, you should come and see my new band when we get a gig.  we're called "the beatles". catchy name, eh?? ) and Brothers of the occult  sisterhood, freshly back from the us of a, where they performed alongside ms. nadler at the terrastock festival.  seemingly complete mp3's of all the performances were posted to the net a little while ago, and it's possible you'd be able to get the marissa nadler set here: ftp://T6:T6@bergsman.homeftp.net/MarissaNadler.mp3 if you're patient and keep trying.  as far as the fey female post/ free folk singer etc goes, my sympathies lie far more with fursaxa or lau nau than ms. nadler, and if you're a bit the same, or just can't get enough of this kinda gear either way, then you probably need to hear delphine dora.  she's french, and lives in belgium - nothing to do with quebec at all, as i had for some unknown reason previously believed.  I know this now, because she was kind enough to point it out to me, and I thank her for that.  Anyway, she has been posting her music to archive.org for a little while now. start here, to get a taste for it: http://www.archive.org/details/delphine_dora-for_christmas
while you're at archive, kyogle's finest have been kind enough to make their terrastock set available easily, by posting it here http://www.archive.org/download/BOTOS_terrastock6/BrothersoftheOccultSisterhood.mp3
bless their little hearts, or perhaps more particularly, that of jim barrett jr, (aka mymwly artist nada baba) who uploaded the file.  He has a few other pieces of music & video available online, including both of the nada baba albums http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=creator:%22Jim%20Barrett%22
Kyogle's onlyest have also been feeling the love for the music of halftheory's minds, with cd's recently released on their mymwly imprint by sunshine has blown (joel stern & adam park of impromptulons & etc, (plus others)) and biffplex & no guru featured on the latest (volume 5) issue in the 'sound surrounds us' compilation series, and possibly more half/theory flavoured releases to come. check the ones which exist so far in the shop (http://www.halftheory.com/index.php?go=shop ), and stay tuned to http://www.mymwly.blogspot.com/ for the ones that don't yet.

ok.  contrary to what you were told earlier "brutalfest' is actually on this saturday (3rd june).  So be at her majesty's basement if you want to see awesome melbourne grindcore from fuck i'm dead and the day everything became nothing.  plus a whole lot of other shit too. which will be brutal.  or at least festy.  remember, this saturday, not some time in july.  I posted links to fuck i'm dead's myspce page before, so I'm not going to do so again... but, for those of you who require some free sonic brutality, we won't let you down.  company fuck's travels in europe have brought him into contact with the brutalist raggacore stylings of zombieflesheater.  this is some pretty bruudal shit right here http://zfe.raggacore.com/  (courtesy raggacore.com) another one of the most impressively brutal things that's passed by my way recently is pyha's track "a tale from the haunted house" (courtesy of wfmu) http://blogfiles.wfmu.org/BL/0511/Pyha_-_Tale_From_the_Haunted_House.mp3 this is allegedly the work of a korean teenager, and recieved 10/10 in the terrorizer demo reviews section. allegedly.  regardless, this is some brutal noise/metal shit.  anyway.  I finally managed to find the "kid's" myspace page, and the ep presented there is a bit of a disappointment in comparison, but ok if you just can't handle the glacial pace at which world class idiot varg vikerens (aka burzum) puts out records.  erm, not that that statement describes me, or anything.... http://www.myspace.com/ruinedh  and whats the missing link between brutality & eurovision?
anton maiden!!!! http://antonmaiden.altervista.org/ if you don't know, i'm not going to spoil it... but you need to deignorantify your arse regarding the sadly departed mr maiden asap. ok. moment of silence for anton.

ok.  in other news....
lloyd barrett's album for room 40 "mise en scene" has gone off to the pressing plant, and yes that's an actual pressing plant not a euphamism for his cd burner.  quelle excitement, n'est pas?.  you can hear the track "a sillhouette for balance" courtesy of room 40 website here: http://www.room40.org/mp3/RM418.mp3 . lloyd will also be playing as part of plague doctor on sunday, but this performance is at a private residence so i'm not going to give out the address here.  listen to audio pollen (4zzz, 11pm) this wednesday for more details....

the deadline for submitting proposals to play or talk or whatever at electrofringe this year is rapidly approaching.  you need to have sent stuff off by the end of the week. more details here:http://www.halftheory.com/index.php?go=blog&id=31

also requiring your submission.... good friend & long term supporter of both half/theory & yours truly, carolyn harris, has finally acquired her own timeslot on 3pbs community radio in melbourne.  carolyn has supported my musical endeavours since long before they were good, and attended/ drove me to several of my early gigs (some of which i am still not forgiven for.  don't ask).  anyway, her show, "short circuits" is the most reliably 'out' show on 3pbs and she wants your music for it. send her stuff (none of your crap mind... she has sharply tuned ears and won't play a bar of anything substandard) at the following address...

carolyn harris
c/o 3PBSFM
PO Box 2917
Fitzroy MDC
Vic  3065
Australia.

(carolyn is also looking to do things such as live to air shows, interviews, etc "when i get my shit together".  her shit is pretty together, so this should be fairly soon.  so have your managers contact her to arrange this (please have your payola methods at the ready...) or whatever.  the show airs on 3pbs thursday/friday midnight - 2am)

don't forget that the whitehouse is running an exhibition of japanese graffiti for the next two weeks or so (details: http://www.whitehousespace.net/index.php?events=24 ) and that you can go there to buy sexy objects made by & for sexy people on fridays from 11am - 6pm.

eugene carcheiso of the lost domain & the deadnotes will be showing some of his visual art as part of a group exhibition beginning on 10th june at the ima.  I believe the deadnotes (also featuring leighton craig of lost domain/ fractions & stuart busby of fractions) may be performing at the opening.

look out for shows by stephen vitiello at the judith wright center on friday 9th june, wolf eyes on the 29th & 30th of june and liquid architecture on the 30th june/ 1st july... more on these closer to the dates.

and also keep an eye out for new cd's by biffplex (gasp!), baka tatakau and more....
