When there is nothing on TV...

Audiopollen 20th and 27th September 2006

Hello half-theorists.

I'm missing Joel - I'm sure he's having lots of fun making friends with security guards but I need some to help me do the playlists dammit! ;D

Not that i'm lonely mind...

On the 20th I had the pleasure of Bec Cunningham's company.  We discussed Fluxus, Flux-Us (the recent controversial event she curated at the Judith Wright Centre for Contemporary Art,) where she has been and where she is going.

Unfortunately I've lost the actual playlist but I can assure you that included in the proceedings were...

Joe Jones - Solar Music (30th Anniversary excerpt) - amusing me no end that solar powered bongos end up sounding like hippie powered bongos!

Joseph Beuys Stuka Bomber Piece by Al Hansen

Liebe Und Kleine Haustiere but Tibor Mack Rinus Van ALebeek

and an interview with George Macunias as well as Ben Vautier's "Some Ideas for Fluxus"

On the 27th I had the company of Lawrence English and Richard Chartier.  Richard is touring around the country at the moment and I urge you to attend his gigs and buy some of his merch.  Seeing him live has given me an appreciation of the fine level of control he exhibits and an expert ear for carving complimentary frequencies out of the air like floral designs in butter.

I started the night with side3 of Buy Hidden Persuaders - a new album by I am Spoonbender.  IAS are kinda like Team Plastique if they Coil.  Shiny electro-pop meets remote viewing, conspiracy theories and subliminal sound.
You can download it for free here.... http://www.buyhiddenpersuaders.com/index2.html?checkYes=on
(Note these are wave files so consult your bandwidth before attempting this...!)

Mixed up amongst some brief comments from Richard we heard 3 tracks...
After Image (12k), Retrieval Two(ERS) and Sketch for Deletion (Unreleased)

I then followed by plugging my own sorry arse with Swarm from Mise En Scene.  The wire recently reviewed it in the Outer Limits section and I get criticised again for being too serious.  If these reviewers could see me ROTFLMAO while I made these tracks i'm sure they'd shrug and go back to their IPods.  IPods suck for playing MES btw!

Richard tells an anecdote of a certain technology mag calling him to say one of his cds had nothing on it.  After assuring them that it did contain sound and enquiring on the nature of their speakers he was told that they used their computer speakers and did not have headphones.  Richard was then asked if he might supply a tape copy!  Presumably as speaker rumbling fun for the old gas-guzzling station wagon.

Jamie the Human had his birthday on monday and I couldn't resist (ok, I admit - I was actively encouraged) playing the Resident's Birthday Boy from Buster and Glen.

One final note: I will be in Newcastle for TINA/Electrofringe2006 this weekend so please come up and say HI if yr around.  I am playing at Gado!Gado!Gado! and will be playing excerpts from Let's Hear it for the Vague Blur and the work in progress Synchresis in a surround sound environment at the Tafe gallery around midday on Sunday.

Here's a little track I cooked up whilst preparing!
