Goldilocks by A.Ryder - http://users.tpg.com.au/arydyr/ComicsCat.htm

Audiopollen 04 oct 2006

A brief update cos the hour of sleep draws near!

01) music for remote viewer - teknosadist (SCAR)

A new millenium project for Steve Carter who is responsible for the Fistfunk Futurists and other works alongside Bryan (MIA) Bird and with Antoinette Ryder make some of the most reprehensible comics available - check them out at http://users.tpg.com.au/arydyr/ComicsCat.htm
Teknosadist is deeply lemurian looping torture and comes highly recommended.

02) in the last hour - janek schaefer (ROOM40)

New release from local label and i'm happy to announce that it's great.  Janek has moved away from the turntable stuff towards a kind of installation composition with lots of phonography mixed in with site specific organ manipulation.

03) one plus one - phil samartzis/lawrence english (ROOM40)

I'm sure that this is edited material from the handful of... Read more

When there is nothing on TV...

Audiopollen 20th and 27th September 2006

Hello half-theorists.

I'm missing Joel - I'm sure he's having lots of fun making friends with security guards but I need some to help me do the playlists dammit! ;D

Not that i'm lonely mind...

On the 20th I had the pleasure of Bec Cunningham's company.  We discussed Fluxus, Flux-Us (the recent controversial event she curated at the Judith Wright Centre for Contemporary Art,) where she has been and where she is going.

Unfortunately I've lost the actual playlist but I can assure you that included in the proceedings were...

Joe Jones - Solar Music (30th Anniversary excerpt) - amusing me no end that solar powered bongos end up sounding like hippie powered bongos!

Joseph Beuys Stuka Bomber Piece by Al Hansen

Liebe Und Kleine Haustiere but Tibor Mack Rinus Van ALebeek

and an interview with George Macunias as well as Ben Vautier's "Some Ideas for Fluxus"

On the 27th I had the... Read more

Warren Burt - the Allen Ginsberg of the Melbourne Experimental Scene

Audiopollen 13 September 2006

Tonight we played a mixture of releases from the last 1/2 of the year.

Starting with David Shea's Art of Memory suite which has recently been released on his own Metta Editions label from Melbourne.  Those who have seen his most recent performances will make more sense of this with sample collages of film and audio, composed and broken sound.

I then moved onto Warren Burt, mr Old School who moved from San Diego to Melbourne in 1975 and immediately set about stirring up the local experimental musicians assisting in the setup of the Clifton Hill Community Arts Centre from whence the likes of Phillip Brophy and Ernie Althoff hail.

Tonight I played a selection from his recent release for Phil Niblock's Xperimental Intermedia label, "The Animation of Lists and the Archytan Transcriptions".  Over two sides this disc features expansive compositions for tuned metal bars and can be listened to as both modern serial music and ambient drone. ... Electro-Acoustic Omelettes

Audiopollen 06 September 2006

Tonight we played a mish mash of electro-acoustic, concrete and esoteric musicks.

We opened with 3 tracks from Tod Dockstader's recent Aerial#3 (Sub Rosa) entitled "dissent", "howl" and "wheeze".  These tracks come from about a decades worth of Shortwave scanning and are quite startling and evocative.  Mutated choirs, agressive robot drills and electronic chanting.

Lionel Marchetti's "Visions Nocturnae" followed up from his recent, charmingly packaged 3 x 3" cd set Red Dust set (Crouton).  Marchetti approaches musique concrete with a sense of humour and modern technology and the result sounds far less stuffy than ye olde skool.

Irr App Ext's "A Confluence of Trivialities Coagulate Into an Unspeakable Whole" from "Their Little Bones, Becoming Sharp, Find Repose but Fail to Avoid Worrying a Breach in the Ghostly Skin, the Which Separates That Above from That Below (this being The Last and Final Seal) and Whereupon All Light... I decided against a picture of a roasted dog being devoured by a hungry Vietnamese family as being bait for unrelated discourse

Audiopollen 23/08/06

Tonight I soloed with a bunch of recent releases from Last Visible Dog - a fantastic label who provide quality AND quantity!
Aside from releasing the epic Invisible Pyramid set (a requiem to the extinction of a variety of animal life) they have continued to pump out multi-volume sets of interesting clatter and drone.
For this broadcast we focused specifically on:

Peter Wright - Pariahs Sing Om - a reissue of the original release adding the Catch a Spear as it Flys album, extended tracks and a 3rd disc of unreleased material.  Peter to me is 50% into the Jonathan Colelough / Andrew Chalk style of drone while the other 50% is firmly embedded in the New Zealand lo-fi scene providing thick droning walls of ambience that aren't content to be smug or wallpaper pretty but constantly flickering, shifting and evolving.  If Mirror is a glistening lake then Peter Wright is the campfire.  I played "5mins, 3seconds" and "Catch a Spear as it Flys"
